Downtown Tours

With the assistance of Ann Jarrell, we have scheduled tours of the Lloyd George Federal Courthouse, for Tuesday afternoon.

Participants will need to pay $15 to cover the cost of lunch and transportation.

We will rent cars from the motor pool to transport everyone to the Courthouse. Judge George will give the tour, which will last 45 minutes and will include the Marshall's area and the holding cells.

After the tour, there will be a buffet lunch set up in the Courthouse library.

After lunch, we will tour the Lionel Sawyer & Collins Library and the Clark County Library. Then we will transport everyone back to the hotel.

Westpac Luncheon and Business Meeting at AALL

Members of the LAC attended the 2006 Westpac Luncheon and Business meeting at the AALL Annual Meeting in St. Louis.  We met at Mosaic on Tuesday afternoon and were served a delicious meal, including an especially tasty gazpacho.  Sara Mauldin and I reported on plans for the upcoming Las Vegas meeting and distributed the poker chips.  We also assured the group of our intention not to go over budget.  There seems to be a lot of interest in attending; everyone wanted a poker chip and several people asked about hotel registration.

LAC Meeting Minutes 5/16/06

Fundraising
Possibilites for more fundraising were discussed. Paula proposed creating a table that listed various amounts for various sponsorship opportunities. (Breaks, exhibit tables, program cover, etc.) The committee thought it was a good idea. Amounts were discussed. Paula will draft a cover letter and table of sponsorship opportunities. Possible sponsors were discussed.

Receptions
The first evening reception will be in the UNLV Law Library circulation area and will be sponsored by the Boyd School of Law.
The second evening reception will be at the Border Grill in Mandalay Bay. Menu and seating options were discussed. It was decided not to have an open bar because of the expense. A cash bar will be available in the restuarant.

Shuttle
Cindy reported that she is looking into shuttle companies to provide transporation to and from the hotel. The shuttle will probably cost in the range of $700/day, which is going to be a considerable expense.

Gift Bags
BNA is going to donate the gift bags

Publicity
Sara reported that she has drafted an e-mail featuring the logo that Tom designed. She will send it to the following list-servs: WestPAc, SCALL, NOCALL, Law Lib, LLOPS, NEVLL, and NLA. Sara asked if we could get T-shirts with the logo that we could then raffle off at AALL. The committee thought it was a good idea.
Cindy suggested purchasing a Las Vegas sign and a cut out of Elvis to put at the AALL table. The committee thought it was a good idea.

LAC Meeting Minutes 3/29/06

Hotel Contract:
Lisa is Comfortable signing the contract. Since we are responsible for 90% of the contracted rooms, Paula will try to reduce the number of contracted rooms to 45.

Sunday Reception:
Jennifer reported on the Sunday evening reception. The Atomic Testing Museum will charge $1000-1200 for use of the museum. Catering will cost additional. We will try to raise money to support this event, but if we cannot afford it, we will have the opening reception in the thunderdome.

Monday Reception:
Frances reported on the Monday evening reception. Once the contract with Mandalay Bay is signed, Frances will work with Paula on the menu for a reception at the Border Grill.

Monday Lunch:
Diana reported on the Monday lunch. Diana investigated having the recpetion at the Barrick Museum. It will cost $35 per hour. An alternative would be to have lunch at the Alumni Center instead. The Italian themed Sodexho lunch is probably the best option.

Tom reported on a proposed schedule from the education committee. The committee discussed asking the eductation committee to modify the schedule to accomodate tours of the downtown libraries since they are closed on Sunday.

The committee discussed dine arounds for Saturday and Tuesday nights.

Paula reported that the Library district would be happy to do tours for us, but we would need to select a specific library. The committee felt that there would not be much interest in a public library tour.

Kevin reported that "what happens here, stays here" is copyrighted.

The comittee discussed Ethel M. Factory tours.
